A Wrinkle in Time: Themes

In our LA class, we finally finished our Wrinkle in Time books…(phew..) I thought the book was really exciting towards the end. Now all we have to do is just to write this post, alot like a book review of WIT. We will be answering a couple of questions that Mr. R gave us. This post is kind of late.. but something is better than nothing..right?? OK, so below is my WIT review…at last.

1. What do you think was the most important theme of the book?
- I thought the most important theme of the book is good vs. evil. This goes out to everything: the darkness, IT, the Black Thing, the 3 Mrs. W’s etc. Something I thought was the message of good vs. evil is Meg’s abilities and Meg’s disability (for example, not being smart). She was always going against herself with everything. For example, Meg is very nice and pretty patient with her journey with Calvin, Charles Wallace and the 3 Mrs. W’s. But when she was dealing with IT and the Transparent column, I thought she was really impatient and stubborn. So that is what I was talking about; Meg and her ability to control herself from her good side and bad side. Another thought I have about this theme is how the three kids go and fight against the darkness and defeated all the odds along their journey. The one thing I found that was really a good thing about their strategies is that they play a good teamwork and their friendship. So because of their good hearts and love amongst each-other, they were able to defeat the evil. And that is the reasons I thought that good vs. evil is the best theme of the book.

2. What was your overall impression of the book?
- In the beginning of the book, I thought it was kind of “Okay-ish”. I mean, they had a lot of detail of everything but many of it was just too much to describe a little subject. But I mean, it wasn’t bad, but it was just a waste of time to read description over descriptions of just the simplest things. But towards the middle part and ending of the book, it got really exciting baceuse of all the complications and events that occured. But overall, I thought the book was pretty well-written.

2a. What was the most memorable parts of the book?
- I thought the most memorable parts of the book was the time when Meg met Mrs. Whatsit for the first time. Yup, it was the first chapters of the book. But like I wrote earlirer, the first parts of the book was so descripted. But because of that, it made alot of things memorable. And for some weird reason, I found the flower-up-your-face part very clear to remember. I don’t know why, but I think it’s because of the randomness of the flower-for-your-oxygen part as the reason why I remember it so clearly.

2b. The least?
- I don’t know what was the least memorable. Because it won’t be the least memorable if I write it down. But the part I thought wasn’t really strong was the part when the three kids met the Happy Medium. It really didn’t grab my attention.

2c. What did you like?
- The things I liked about the book is the plot. I loved the plot. I found it very creative and unique. I mean…if you think about it, how many books are there in the world that talks about weird flying pegasus-thingies that were once stars or just the fact that a five-year-old could read minds of a brain? It is really exciting and new. Another thing I liked about the book are the characters. They are special in a way. For example, Meg is a misfit but ends up as a hero at the end and the 3 Mrs. W’s were once stars and liked being them. The characters are very unique and original. So I thought the best thing about the book is the originality

2d. Dislike?
- What I disliked about the book was the fact that they included many science and math in the story. And if you are a reader of my blog, you could tell that Maths aren’t my specialty. So along the way, I was kind of confused on their weird concept things with the dimensions and tessering. It was pretty complicating to figure it out. Because at the end of the book, they had a special edition of an essay of the real-life science behind the book. It was reliefing to find the actual facts on it and I didn’t have to think alot on the scientific concepts.

So….That is the end of my WIT review. I recommend this book to people who love fantasy and sci-fi. The book was really exciting while it lasted….
